Its a sad day….

Unfortunately, we are closing out blogging doors today.

Sometimes, when there are too many irons in the fire, you have to acknowledge that you can do some things very well, or a lot of things poorly. In this case, while we love to read and review books, and feature authors, we are not doing justice to this space or the idea of what we wanted to do with this space.

So for all our fabulous followers and commenters and authors/publishers who’ve stopped by, read our opinions, and asked us to review, we thank you.

We’ll leave our reviews up on Goodreads, and we wish you all fabulous reading!

The blog will stay up for about another week, and then we will be removing it from the web.

Thank you again.

In celebration, today Ashelyn Drake has stopped by to tell us what the hardest part of writing is. Take it away Ashelyn!

When I first decided I wanted to be an author, I thought actually writing the book was the toughest part. And while there are days when the words just don’t want to come out right, drafting and revising are not the hardest parts of my job. Believe it or not, it’s letting go. I’m the person who loves the build-up to release day but fears the actual day. Why? Because I know not everyone will love my book. In fact some people will hate it. There, I said it.

Reading is subjective. I’ve read reviews that say I conveyed so much emotion on the page that the reader needed a box of tissues beside her. I’ve read other reviews of the same book that say there was no emotion at all. See how different those reviews are? So what’s my reaction? To each his/her own. Every reader is entitled to his or her opinion. It doesn’t make me love my book or characters any less. That’s why I try to avoid reading reviews unless a reviewer or my publicist sends it to me and I know it’s safe. 😉

Still, I worry on release day. I worry that no one will read my book, even though people have marked it “Want to Read” on Goodreads. I worry people will read it and hate the book. I stalk my rankings on Amazon, holding my breath as the page loads. It’s killer sometimes.

So yeah, writing the book is tough, but knowing it’s out there for people to read is even tougher. But, I’m a writer. It’s who I am, and I’ll continue to put out books I love in hopes that others will love them, too.

Seventeen-year-old Cara Tillman’s life is a perfectly normal one until Logan Schmidt moves to Ashlan Falls. Cara is inexplicably drawn to him, but she’s not exactly complaining. Logan’s like no boy she’s ever met, and he brings out a side of Cara that she isn’t used to. As the two get closer, everything is nearly perfect, and Cara looks forward to the future.
But Cara isn’t a normal girl. She’s a member of a small group of people descended from the mythical phoenix bird, and her time is running out. Rebirth is nearing, which means she’ll forget her life up to this point—she’ll forget Logan and everything they mean to one another.. But that may be the least of Cara’s problems.

A phoenix hunter is on the loose, and he’s determined to put an end to the lives of people like Cara and her family, once and for all.

I won an award!

la1

I was nominated by the Bodacious Book Babes, thank you so much for nominating my blog! From what I understand, you answer their 11 questions, then you nominate 11 people with under 200 followers, and post 11 new questions for them to answer.

The Rules:

Link and thank the blogger that nominated you

Answer the 11 questions your nominator gives you

Tag 11 other bloggers who have 200 or less followers

Ask the 11 nominated bloggers 11 questions and tell them you’ve nominated them

Bodacious Babe’s Questions:

1. How many books (estimate) do you currently own? How many have you actually read?

Oh, man. How many do I own? Probably at least 200-300? There’s a lot. And I actually got rid of a bunch when I moved last year! Of those, only about 50 have I not read.

2. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?

One Book? What kind of torture would that be? *sigh* If I had to choose, it would be the Complete Works of William Shakespeare. Or Jane Austen. Either way, I get to read lots of books in one!

3. What was the worst book you’ve read this month?

I don’t know that I’ve read any that were that bad. Really! I choose to skip this one. lol

4. What was the first book you fell in love with?

The first book? Hmmmm… I loved the original fairy tale set my mother gave me. Especially the Goose Girl. Yes, it was the “uncensored” fairy tales. Could explain alot about me, maybe.

5. Hard copies or ebooks? Why?

While I love ebooks because I can fit more on less space for cheaper, I still prefer regular books. They don’t give me migraines (as often) and there’s nothing like that new book smell.

6. If you could be best friends with any fictional character, who would it be?

All these questions are so hard! I think I’d be best friends with Aragorn. Mainly because I’d get to hang out with Elves and wander Middle Earth. How is that not a good plan?

7. If you could change the ending of any book, what would it be and how would you change it?

Hmmmm…

8. What’s one book you would read to make you feel better if you were having a bad day?

Notes on a Small Island (or really anything by) Bill Bryson. He’s funny and informative and I love his travel essays.

9. Who is your favorite author and why?

I’m going to say Shakespeare and Bronte because I will always love anything Hamlet or Jane Eyre. ANYTHING.

10. What are your top three favorite genres?

YA paranormal/scifi/fantasy, romance, and travel essays (esp if they’re set in UK or Caribbean.)

11. What book or series do you hate the most? Why?

Also, To the Lighthouse by Virginia Wolf or As I Lay Dying by Faulkner. That stupid lighthouse is mentioned once at the end. And Faulkner…oh, Faulkner. I know they’re classics, and they had the writing chops, but… yeah. Not my cup of tea.

My Questions:

1. If you were stranded on an island and could only have three books, what would they be?

2. What book have you read this year that turned out to be a surprise love?

3. If you had to recommend one book to a reluctant reader, what would it be?

4. Who would your fictional boyfriend/girlfriend be?

5. Hard copies or ebooks? Why? (I’m totally stealing this one from Bodacious Babes)

6. If you could spend a month in one book’s world, which one would it be?

7. What ending made you want to throw something?

8. What is your favorite book to movie adaptation?

9. What is your least favorite book to movie adaptation?

10. What three authors would you want to have lunch with? Where?

11. Best book you ever read?

It’s been five weeks, two days, and eight hours since the demons forced Quinn to throw herself into the raging river, since Aaron sacrificed himself to save her, since he disappeared without a trace. No body, no sign of him at all. Everyone wants her to move on, but Quinn can’t. She’s convinced Aaron’s trying to contact her, but Azrael, her angel Sentinel, insists these visions are nothing more than the demons preying on her guilt, bent on distracting her from her true destiny as the reincarnation of Eve.

With Aaron’s fate forever entwined with Quinn’s true Sentinel, Kaemon, they both find themselves prisoner of the underworld. For Aaron, death in the river would have been easier than ending up in Lilith’s dungeons.

Sixteen-year-old Selena Fallon is a dreamer. Not a daydreamer, but an I-see-the-future kind of dreamer. Enter Dillan Sloan. Selena has seen the new guy in a different dream, and he is even more drool-worthy in person. Beyond the piercing blue eyes and tousled dark hair, there is something else that draws her to him. Something…electric. Too bad he acts like he hates her.

When Selena learns she’s being targeted by a force bigger and darker than anything she ever imagined, she’s had enough. Donna Pierce might hear voices, but that doesn’t mean she’s crazy. Probably.

The voices do serve their purpose, though—whenever Donna hears them, she knows she’s in danger. So when they start yelling at the top of their proverbial lungs, it’s no surprise she and her best friend, Deke, end up narrowly escaping a zombie horde. Alone without their families, they take refuge at their high school with the super-helpful nerds, the bossy class president, and—best of all?—Liam, hottie extraordinaire and Donna’s long-time crush. When Liam is around, it’s easy to forget about the moaning zombies, her dad’s plight to reach them, and how weird Deke is suddenly acting toward her.

But as the teens’ numbers dwindle and their escape plans fall apart, Donna has to listen to the secrets those voices in her head have been hiding. It seems not all the zombies are shuffling idiots, and the half-undead aren’t really down with kids like Donna…
